I´ve got the same problem, and it was so simple like maximize the Illustrator tool bar, and the tool pencil will suddendly appears.

Thank you, Bea! This may be the temporary solution for me.
I never notice it. Just two clicks, it gets work. Better than nothing!
I think the program seems forgetting to refresh the tool palette.

We're working on a fix for this - stay tuned.

I am trying to find out more about this. So could you all please specify the version of your OS and Illustrator? I assume you are all on Windows, right? When this happens, Is there an empty button in the toolbar in the place where the SG button should be, and resizing the toolbar then brings the image back, or does the button not show up at all first?

Looks like the same here, on my Mac Pro Nehalem 10.6.2…
I took a screenshot
but I only can resize the toolbar verticaly on Mac, but I don't get another button apearing…
Is there something I'm doing wrong ?

What you are experiencing is correct. There is only one button now, not two anymore, since nobody ever seemed to use the 2nd one. So no need to worry there.

Im using CS3 and windows xp professional.
Before resize the toolbar there isn't an empty button, it looks like the normal toolbar (that i remember.. i'm not sure at all)

Could you all please check if the new version now fixes this problem? Thanks.
